Dentists have always been a dreaded word within our house, and with three small children in drastic need of going for a check-up, it was about time I made a scheduled appointment and didn’t put it off any longer.
The truth is a few years ago I believed it was a good idea to convince the children that the dentist was not bad. This plan of action needless to say backfired, as I lay in the chair petrified of the pain which i knew was coming. My basic clean changed into three fillings plus a future root extraction so whether I’ve just had bad luck in the past with mean dentists, or I have a very low pain threshold, either one, the dentist was not one of my favourite places either!
And so the appointment loomed, and as much as the children protested and said they’d refuse to open their mouths, off we went. Having moved house not too long ago we tried a different dentist that a friend had recommended. I did not hold out much hope as past dentists had been recommended and I always came out feeling like I’d done two rounds with Mike Tyson! But anyhow the appointment was booked and off we went.
As we entered the dentist we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who straight away focused on putting the children at ease. She told all of them exactly what the dentist was going to do and pointed to photos on the wall showing peoples teeth, who did not have their frequent checkups. The children seemed to relax and all of a sudden knew, and understood, the importance of regular brushing (if only they would listen to me at home so easily).
One by one they laid in the chair. The dentist was friendly and my youngest son bonded instantly he started lowering and raising the chair to make him laugh. Even my two daughters were relaxed and yes they even opened their mouths!
A simple clean was carried out on all three plus a friendly explanation about the importance of cleaning your teeth after . The dentists nurse then gave the children some special tablets that showed the plaque and turned it pink (much to the amusement of the kids!) and these are still used a couple of times a week at home just to ensure their teeth our cleaned adequately.
What a difference a kind, friendly Cosmetic Dentist can make to both a children’s and adults attitude to going to the dentist. After years of dreading the 6 monthly check up, we’re now all booked in, as a family, and unbelievably the children can’t wait!
Should your children are dreading the Littleton Dentist then visit 9025 East Mineral Circle Ste 250, Englewood, CO 80112-3469. An outstanding service from the minute you walk in for both children and adults alike. Very highly recommended in my house anyway!
